Want the whole truth about being an entrepreneur?
Last week I was published on the pretty super duper blog of my friend and mentor Denise Duffield Thomas of Lucky Bitch fame sharing my Best Month Ever you can see the full article here.
In it I shared how one idea over last year’s Christmas holidays scored me an $85000 + launch just 6 weeks later. Now don’t get me wrong this is truly awesome and I am super glad that I kicked my own burnout late last year to turn my business around by launching the Mind Money Mojo BS Free Mastermind for Budding Babepreneurs.
But. But. But. I want to tell you the whole truth about being an entrepreneur.
It ain’t all moonbeams and rainbows. It ain’t all $85k launches and it ain’t all “just do what you love and the rest will follow” as some people would have us believe.
You see I can’t stand (like I mean really can’t stand, I feel physically sick and want to barf) when I see all those marketing and business gurus out there touting a magic cure or one size fits all “little tweak” that will net you another $5k or $10k per month.
The true but shocking things is that a lot of them aren’t even making that THEMSELVES.
(hello, we can smell your inauthenticity from a bloody mile away people!).
I am calling bullshit on magic cures, one size fits all advice.
On telling you just the good bits and not sharing the bad.
On showing people the sanitized version of success at the expense of sharing the real truth behind every great person’s (online and off) success.
So here’s the real truth. My truth is that even though my launch in January was a huge one (by far the biggest I have seen), my latest launch in May this year was a flop with a capital F.
Don’t get me wrong statistically it was all hunky dory, my percentage conversion was way higher than average but the results still fell short of my desires by about $30k.
Sucks Big time.
But only for a short time.
Coz the thing is …
Getting up each time you fail. Each time something doesn’t go to plan. Each time you want to curl up in bed and sip peppermint tea and wax lyrical about how your most recent failure was out of your hands!
(and yes I did TOTALLY do just that after my last launch!)
Six figures doesn’t mean six big fat Ks in the hand man.
After costs, a lot of businesses out there touting to be huge successes bring in hardly more profit than a measly old part time J O B. Learning to keep track of what you earn and the elegant way of reinvesting in your business is key to real long term success.
For every kick ass goal / launch / product / success story you hear, I guarantee you there is at least 3 times more failures behind closed doors.
Just because you don’t hear about them does not mean they don’t exist. Don’t you ever ever never let yourself not start just because you see so many people around you kicking goals. It’s the starting and the failing that gets you closer to what you crave.
The most important character of a successful entrepreneur is the ability to get back up – again and again and a-freaking gain!
It does not matter how perfect your website, your product or your offering is honey, if you fail to fail you ain’t ever gonna get “there” wherever the heck that is. Mastering your mindset is key.
If you don’t believe with every fibre of your being that you CAN create a soul-fuelled business earning healthy income you gotta start excavating those shitty neural networks honey!
All is not what it seems. There IS such an animal as no-holds-barred people out there in the interwebs. BUT ….
Take everything you read with a grain of salt.
There is almost a peer group pressure to sanitise the truth for fear of appearing not good enough. But this is just BS! If I lie to you and say it’s easy or all just one long success story, how the heck are you going to have the chops to bring your gift to the world, right?
Also, I believe vulnerability is sexy!
At the end of the day, it’s not about money or reach or reputation.
It’s about creating the life YOU crave. This may mean 7 figure income for some, it may mean 5 figures and lots and lots of family time or time laying on a beach in Tahiti or whatevs. Resist the urge to go after someone else’s end game.
Your business SHOULD NOT ever be your be all and end all.
Stop looking for love and connection and creativity and satisfaction and soul fuel and everything else only from your business. Just like expecting a man to be your EVERYTHING this is fraught with danger baby. You gotta get out and play, disconnect, walk in the sunshine, do something else that lights you up.
Do this, and you open up heart space and fresh creativity pathways that will inevitably grow your business way faster than if you work 100 hour weeks doing that thing that you (used to once upon a time when you let it breathe and evolve) love.
It’s easy to just give yourself another J O B.
Think about it. Do you “have to” do anything when you don’t really want to in your business? If you are unconsciously (or otherwise) firing up the BS that says you have to work hard to make money or online businesses are hard to keep going or any other limiting shiz you are in danger of creating another container that is more like working for yourself in a job than true entrepreneurship.
Think outside the box. And if you cant do that for yourself, get a mentor toot sweet that can help you do it to begin with.
And last but not least …
You really are the sum of the 5 people you hang with most
I know you have heard this before but it has never been truer than the game of entrepreneurship honey. If you are hanging out with people who are ‘just trying’ or ‘giving it a go’ at making a healthy in their own business you gotta get a new group of people to hang with.
Yes! I am deadly serious. Now of course that does not mean ditch your close buddies, but you have to have to find peeps who crave the same freedom / independence / master of your own destiny juice that you do. There is no sweeter relief than being able to say “oh god, it didn’t work” and have a really good sook for a moment before being told this too shall pass and encouraged to get on out there again.
Okey dokey, I always say that one of my superpowers is challenging the status quo, so I guess this is my little way of saying.
You got this.
Just keep getting up.
