In my opinion, the growing Fear Of Missing Out [FOMO] phenomenon could be the biggest barrier to building a soulful and successful business for women entrepreneurs.
FOMO instantly pushes you into a lack mindset and in turn cuts you off from abundance thinking.
FOMO steals your originality and stops you birthing something brandy new that no one else has done before.
FOMO dilutes your superpowers coz you are so freaking busy looking at everyone else is doing and minimizing yourself in comparison.
FOMO traps you inside the box, where really it’s the outside of the box where your business sweet spot resides.
FOMO disconnects you from your own internal wisdom and puts your measure for success outside of yourself.
FOMO keeps you playing like everyone else, and therefore missing out on opportunities to be your own stellar self.
FOMO creates business models that don’t quite fit your unique and quirky set of gifts.
FOMO tells you that you just can’t be worthy WITHOUT doing, being, connecting, even selling the way everyone else is.
And most importantly .. ..
FOMO keeps you stuck in fear, and nothing good comes from fear.
>> TWEET THIS TRUTH:
And right now, in the world of online entrepreneurship it seems, to me at least, that FOMO is being used as a numero uno marketing technique. FOMO tells you that you NEED to do that course, work with that coach, sign up for that program because if you don’t you will be left behind.
The B School promo being a perfect example.
Am I against B School? Well, yes and no.
No because B School was my entry point into the world of entrepreneurship back in 2012. Back then the community was small enough to make real connections and not get lost in the sea of now thousands and thousands of people.
No because although the content of the program is extremely basic and nowhere near the entire package of info you really need to set up and grow an online business [to be fair nor does it promise to be either], that community has been a source of ongoing support, cheerleading, and lifelong friendship connections.
No because for someone just starting out, B School is a great starting point if you don’t have the time / energy / inclination to research and find the basics of online marketing through the oodles of free online content out there already that does not require you to spend $2k to get it.
On the flipside:
Yes because I am against FOMO based marketing and that is [by design or by accident] EXACTLY what the B School promo period in February each year becomes – with each year getting bigger and bigger.
You would have to be living under a rock or completely offline to NOT have been inundated with B School emails from a plethora of online identities, offering shining super positive B School reviews and shinier and even more super positive bonuses to sign up through their own affiliate link.
I consciously decided NOT to affiliate B School this year having been an affiliate last year, because I did not want to be part of the avalanche of B School promo posts creating a massive and very hard to resist cloud of FOMO for those on the fresher end of the spectrum for online entrepreneurship.
I also HATE the idea that I am somehow cashing in on the fact that every sale earns a staggering $1000 thank you commission and I have seen time and time again that this invites very biased and half truth reviews of the program. . . this is particularly because I really do have my reservations about this being a program that ALL people who are online entrepreneurs SHOULD in fact do.
It really comes down to the fact that there is no silver bullet in business. There is no one size fits all. You are intrinsically good enough already. And often you don’t need another bloody program… What you really need to do as your next step is FOCUS, take inspired action towards where you want to go and ultimately trust your gut to KNOW what you really want to create.
That, and dig underneath any BS in your mind that says you don’t have what it takes. Which just so happens to be my superpower.
In summary I guess what I want to say the most is no matter if it’s B School or the latest program released into your inbox, whether it’s working with that coach, or wanting to offer your own e course just because everyone else is doing it, my invitation is to:
Then sink into your heart and soul. Not that fear based lizard brain. Not that lack based idea that you will be left behind. Not that not worthy feeling that gets fired up when you are looking in everyone else’s business.
The sure and certain place inside of you that doesn’t need to be told what to do. Look inside, and without listening to all the kerfuffle, bright shiny marketing, affiliate ra ra ra and noise out there, simply ask.
Is this my next step? and listen listen listen to your own answers.
