She helps female entrepreneurs move from overwhelm and struggling to growing their audience and revenue with ease by releasing them from an energy-sucking business that lacks results.
She loves helping entrepreneurs create blogs that become the engine room that fuels their business through her six-week Fearless Business Blogging program.
Honey, why do you live out of the box in your life? And what does living out of the box look like for you?
Ah, because living out of the box is a sure-fire way to stand out from the pack! And I’m all about getting people to notice you and what you do in business. Ever since I started blogging, and now as an entrepreneur, I’ve always done things differently. As a result, you pique people’s interest and draw them to you.
OK, so you want examples, right? When I started out as a mum blogger, way back when, I used to hold Christmas blog parties, and even a party for the Royal Wedding, using a program called CoverItLive! No one else was holding live blog parties. We used to give away products from brands, share silly stories and jokes, share opinions on fashions at the Royal Wedding, or song choices at Carols in the Domain. It was purely a bit of fun for mums stuck at home, but it helped attract a really strong and engaged audience. Hmm…. now I’m wondering why I’m not doing this in my business?
Anyway…. the point is, while everyone else is zigging, I love to zag and try new things. Sure, sometimes I fail. But failing fast definitely helps bring success quicker.
Was this always the way or was there an epiphany or turning point when you decided to jump outside?
I think it stems from my background as a journalist, really. I had an editor who really encouraged us to think outside the box and try things other media weren’t. I have to tell you, it’s so much easier to do that when it’s someone else’s brand you’re playing with. It really takes courage to step outside your comfort zone – and your box – with your own brand.
But it’s soooo worth it! I actually think I lost it for a while – that idea of being innovative to see what sticks. In the past few months, in analysing what worked in my mum blog to what works in my business blog, I’ve kind of had that aha! moment and am embracing it again in the way I run my business.
What’s the scariest thing you have had to overcome so far?
I think it’s telling a contractor they’re not the right fit for my business. I am a people pleaser, so I hate upsetting other people and try to avoid confrontation at all cost. So this really pushes me out of my comfort zone.
Imagine, if you will, that you had not taken a leap to live out of the box, what are the most precious things you would have missed in your journey?
Growth! I see the world differently and have moved through many moments of fear to unveil new talents and skills I didn’t even know were hidden under layers of excuses. I would never have discovered I had superpowers (who knew!) or the true power of my mind in creating the life I now lead.
What do you stand for – in life and in business?
Being fearless! I’m not saying I’m an expert in this – far from it – but every time I’ve bit my lip and dived in anyway, amazing things happen. We hold ourselves back so much in life and business and starve others of our gifts. Well, I have, anyway.
As they say: everything you want is on the other side of fear!
What do you stand against?
People who make others feel they’re not worthy. We’re all worthy. We all have amazing superpowers.
We’re all valued for different reasons and no one person is better than another.
Gee, that felt good to get off my chest!
What are your superpowers and how do they help you to live out of the box?
My superpowers are storytelling, self expression and platform building. I just love helping female entrepreneurs move from overwhelm and struggling to growing their audience and revenue with ease. How does that help me live outside the box? Well, daily I get to be crazily creative around conjuring up perfect blog posts to build entrepreneurs’ businesses, help them launch captivating content sequences and build out their dream digital products and programs.
If you could go back and tell your 16yr old self one thing, what would it be?
Learn the art of RESILIENCE! In life and business, you can get knocked down many, many times. The key to success is really knowing to get back up again and keep going.
And lastly: words of wisdom for someone else thinking of taking a big leap but not sure they will be okay jumping out of their box: ready, set, go!
Be fearless! Go on! Really, what’s the worst that could happen?
Even better, imagine what you’ll be missing out on if you didn’t!
